Mössbauer Spectra of Iron Complexes with Thiosemicarbazone of Diacetyloxime and their Interpretation

Abstract

The use of Mössbauer effect permits to investigate the displacements of the electronic cloud arising due to the chemical changes in the molecule. Mössbauer spectra were obtained for iron compounds given below. The compound {I} represents an addition product of iron(II) chloride with thiosemicarbazone of diacetyloxime (DTOH2). On loss of protons from oximide groups inner complex salt Fe(DTOH)2 {II} is forming. The compound Fe(DTOMe)2 {III} represents also an inner complex salt, but in this case the protons from thiosemicarbazone grouping are lossed. Although in the mentioned compounds the nearest environment of the central atom remains unchanged, however their Mössbauer spectra are distinguishable (Table I). It means that the redistribution of the electronic density in the molecules connected with the loss of far from iron atom located protons reflects on the electric field in close vicinity of the central atoms nuclei. All the three compounds are diamagnetic, it means that they are low-spin complexes. In this case more appropriate description is possible only on the base of MO LCAO method.
