Zusammenfassung

Die vor mehr als 50 Jahren zum erstenmal beschriebene Aortitis (12, 40) wird jetzt als eine der häufigeren kardiovaskulären Erkrankungen angesehen. Unsere Kenntnis ihrer großen Häufigkeit ist relativ jungen Datums, da viele Jahre lang die die Aortitis so oft begleitende Atheromatose die Erscheinungen der erstgenannten Erkrankung sogar bei der Obduktion verdeckte. Genaue histologische Untersuchungen ergaben, daß viele Museumspräparate von Atheromen und arteriosklerotischen Aorteninsuffizienzen in Wirklichkeit Fälle von Syphilis und von syphilitischer Aortitis waren.
