Zusammenfassung
Mit dem Wort „Schallnähe“ sei alles umfaßt, was das Wort selbst bereits ausdrückt. Es ist dabei nicht erforderlich, daß die gesamte Strömung Machsche Zahlen nahe an M = 1 aufweist. Schon das Erreichen oder Überschreiten der kritischen Geschwindigkeit an einer einzigen Stelle bei sonst tiefen Unterschallgeschwindigkeiten oder hohen Überschallgeschwindigkeiten genügt, um die Strömung in den Problemkreis dieses Teiles einzuordnen. Freilich wird in der Praxis nur dann auf die besonderen Erscheinungen Rücksicht zu nehmen sein, wenn die schallnahe Strömung einen wesentlichen Teil der betrachteten Strömung ausmacht. Denn genau genommen überschreitet die Geschwindigkeit auch bei niedrigster Mach-Zahl der Anströmung an einer konvexen Kante stets den Wert M* = 1, und es befindet sich auch in der praktischen Ausführung an der Spitze jedes noch so schnell fliegenden Geschosses ein lokales Unterschallgebiet. Doch werden solche Erscheinungen nur dann der „schallnahen Strömung" zuzuzählen sein, wenn man sich ganz speziell für die Vorgänge in diesem für die Gesamtströmung unbedeutenden Teilgebiete interessiert.
