Mechanisms of Antiviral Actions of Interferons

  • Chapter

Abstract

In this Section, I shall describe the antiviral actions of interferons at the cellular and molecular level. I have chosen to separate in vivo antiviral activities to be described in the Section after discussion of each of the non-antiviral mechanisms, as it seems likely that the involvement of interferon in natural recovery processes from viral infections represents a composite of each of the antiviral and non-antiviral actions (Stewart II, 1973).
