Clinical aspects and terminology of dementing syndromes

As people become increasingly older dementias have been more often diagnosed during the last decade. Difficulties arise in classifying the different types of demential syndromes and in reaching a clear terminology. Modern diagnosis are reached by clinical history, neuroimaging, electrophysiological examinations, laboratory and neurophysiological tests. Following this investigations a variety of demential syndromes are differentiated. An attempt is made to classify demential syndromes into forms of organic dementia, the diffuse organic brain syndrome and the local organic brain syndrome.
