Abstract

In this report a survey will be given on the significance of ultrasonic irradiation on the physical and technological behaviour of metals, on material testing and, finally, on forming of metals. Observations made by Blaha and Langenecker in our institute in Vienna in 1953 gave the impetus for this development. Unfortunately, Blaha died a few years later, but the research work was continued in our institute. Especially Langenecker — the former colleague of Blaha — who emigrated to the U.S.A. but returned to Austria not long ago, is one of the most active investigators in this field. His research work and that of other working groups will be included in our report.
