Abstract
Aeroplanes have to be extremely light, otherwise they will not be able to fly. Hence, aircraft engineers must deal with light-weight structures which are usually thin-walled and liable to buckling if subjected to compressive load. Thus, in aircraft engineering structural stability plays an important rôle.
