Abstract
The subject of rotational dynamics was born in mid-18th Century. d’Alembert and Euler both solved the problem of the precession of the equinoxes in 1749, a case in which it is enough to know how to handle an infinitesimal rotation. At that time, nothing was known about how to handle a general rotation.
