Abstract

As I have remarked previously, spacecraft problems have been responsible for a resurgence and growth of the dynamical theory of rotating systems. For many purposes during the last two decades it has been possible to model the spacecraft as a rigid bodies or gyrostats, or perhaps simple two-body systems. However, even from the earliest days of real satellites, cases have been known where non-rigid characteristics have dominated the dynamical behavior.
