Kinetic and Kinematic Indication Errors in Gyroscopic Instruments

When oscillations occur in gyroscopic instruments, they can cause certain phenomena that will, at least in part, influence the operation of the instruments themselves. This becomes particularly important in the case of the so-called rectifying effects where, as a result of certain unsymmetries that are inherent in the system, there may occur some unilateral drifts or some unilateral disturbing torques. Disturbances of this kind may be caused by:
  1. 1.

    Effects of the inertia of the gimbals;

  2. 2.

    An intermittent (pulsating) drive of the rotor;

  3. 3.

    Elastic deformations of the structure;

  4. 4.

    Kinematic coupling of the oscillations in the case of gyros with two degrees of freedom.
