Stabilization by the Magnetic Field of the Earth
The magnetic field of the earth is approximately a dipol field (fig. 5.1). The dipol axis is inclined to the earth’s axis, but the inclination is usually neglected. The stabilization by means of the earth’s magnetic field is based on the interaction between this field and the magnetic field of the satellite. However, an ideal stabilization is possible only for satellites in equatorial orbits .
