Abstract
Reflections on the nature of probability and statistics have been made by human beeings ever since they learned to think. It is a common feature of daily life that people try to calculate their chances in certain situations. I only remind of the numerous games of hazard to which already the old cultural nations paid homage. The fact that everybody is well acquainted with such games is the reason that dice, playcards etc. are widely used in all texts on probability and statistics.
