Abstract
In recent years users of turbomachinery have shown growing interest for the use of computer based systems for health monitoring and diagnosis. These systems use both the thermodynamic and the mechanical parameters measured, and their combination, to detect incipient damage before major failures. In the beginning of the 1980’s Nuovo Pignone has designed and built a Turbine Diagnostic System (TDS) for gas turbines. Both hardware and software are largely unrelated to the type of driven machinery; the system may therefore be applied to centrifugal compressors, pumps, electrical generators. Main features of TDS are user friendly in operation and reliability; it is flexible and can be constantly updated with the innovation called for by a continuously evolving state-of-art.
