Electrostructured Fluids and Smart Machines

Abstract

Machines are under the spotlight — and by machines, in the present industrial climate, this means flexibly operated, computer controlled original equipment (unconventional transducer assemblies) capable of delivering significant amounts of force, velocity and displacement in a self cooling arrangement. Also, consideration of methods of implementing the scope and performance, and limitations of the concept and their embellishment by the way of a brief consideration of the first commercial application of EST — the Lord under-seat shock controller, will be undertaken. Also typical fluid characteristic forms are presented. More detail of the underlying technology is explored and methodologies for the design of the main types of controller are illustrated in subsequent sections.
