Abstract

The paper discusses the philosophy of PROESTAMP — a Computer Aided Process Planning (CAPP) system for the design of deep drawing tools. PROESTAMP will interface with a finite element code and a material database that includes the mechanical, anisotropic and formability properties of the material experimentally determined in order to enable the preliminary and final design of the deep drawing tools from the geometrical or physical model of the part. The CAPP system will include the capability to store in a multimedia environment the record of all of the above-mentioned procedures including the experimental analysis of the strains imposed on the part and the try-out results. This integrated system will lead to the capability of producing sound parts at first and in a shorter period of time. Simultaneously, an improvement in the design and product quality will be achieved.
