Abstract

The basic idea of the paper is to overcome the barrier of cutting conditions optimization estimated either on the basis of minimum unit production cost or minimum unit production time. In order to evaluate both criteria simultaneously and their mutual dependence, the concept of double-criteria objective function is proposed. The approach adopted in solving the constrained nonlinear minimization problem involved a combination of theoretical economic trends and optimization search techniques. Finally, popular multi-pass rough turning optimization strategy of using equal cutting conditions for all passes is shown to be useful approximation but more rigorous computer-aided optimization analysis yielded unequal cutting conditions per pass.
