Abstract
This study investigated the truing of vitrified-bond CBN grinding wheels. A rotary cup-type diamond truer was used to condition grinding wheels under positive as well as negative dressing speed ratios. Cutting speeds between 30 and 120 m/s were used in an external cylindrical grinding mode. The grinding wheel surface was recorded during all stages of truing and grinding using 2D surface topography measurements. The performance of each truing condition on wheel topography, grinding behavior, and on workpiece topography and integrity were compared. Dressing speed ratio has been found to be a suitable parameter for appropriate CBN grinding wheel preparation.
