Abstract
Two methods of intensification of the drilling process are described in the paper. The first one — by application of different deposited or chemically treated layers for twist drills made from high speed steels. Three coatings were applied: titanium carbide, titanium nitride and diamondlike thin layers. Also, a vacuum nitriding was applied. Tool life was investigated when cutting carbon steel, laminated glass fibre and hardboard. In the second part of the paper the possibility of minimising of cutting forces and torque in drilling is discussed. The influence of different modifications of chisel edge was investigated experimentally. The results of these investigations and conclusions are presented in the paper.
