A method for the analysis of structures in the presence of non-linear physical effects is presented. The technique consists in replacing by asymptotic approximations the nonlinear functions intervening in the governing system. Procedures for detecting and solving situations of plastic straining and unstressing and of elastoplastic instabilization of the structure are incorporated in the algorithm suggested to perform the analysis of the response of the structure.
