Abstract

This chapter deals with the use of some special techniques, which are possible to be used in refurbishment. It contains the description of the main methods available for partial demolition, the presentation of non-classical fasteners as well as of some techniques that allow a connection to be improved or upgraded. Then, two examples of building refurbishment are detailed and the upgrading of a suspension bridge is described.
