Abstract
The presently developed Computer Aided Process Planning (CAPP) systems suffer from a very important practical deficiency: tool life data gathered from machinability experiments performed under isolated laboratory or shop floor conditions are not directly transferable to the actual industrial conditions, owing to the complex nature of machining process. Therefore, there is a need for CAPP software that is capable to adapt the tool life model parameters to a given machining system. In this paper a modular approach to such organized CAPP is proposed. Furthermore, the developed interactive program system for turning operations consisting of modules for tool selection, cutting conditions optimization and tool life data base adaptation is presented.
