Clausius’ second paper
In his second major memoir CLAUSIUS took up again the problem of reconciling CARNOT and CLAPEYRON’s results, apart from the erroneous expressions for the specific heats, with the principle of conservation of energy. It was the expression for the latent heat that remained outstanding. CLAUSIUS had verified it for a perfect gas, with C(θ) = θ, but did it hold for an arbitrary equation of state?
