Pathophysiology of Microanastomoses
Histological studies of microvascular anastomoses have been conducted by only a few authors (Baxter et al. 1972; Bannister 1974, 1976, 1977; Kletter and Meyermann 1974, 1976, 1977; Meyermann and Kletter 1975, 1977). More than 500 sutured end-to-end and end-to-side anastomoses on the carotid artery of the rat were performed by the author and Dr. Meyermann, Department of Neuropathology, University of Göttingen Medical School. The functional performance varied between a minimum of less than 1 hour and a maximum of 22 months (observed in two animals).
