Zusammenfassung
Im folgenden Abschnitt wird die Einteilung, Klassifikation und medikamentöse Behandlung von Persönlichkeits- und Impulskontrollstörungen beschrieben. Persönlichkeit meint die Summe aller Verhaltensweisen und Eigenschaften eines Menschen, die zur Gestaltung von Beziehungen, Erfüllen gesellschaftlicher Erwartungen, Ausprägen einer stabilen Identität und dem Finden von Sinn im Leben notwendig sind. Unter Persönlichkeitsstörung versteht man eine einseitige, extreme Ausprägung einzelner Merkmale, welche beim Betroffenen selbst und/oder seiner Umwelt zu erheblichen Beeinträchtigungen und Leid führen. Persönlichkeitsstörungen sind ausgesprochen häufig, im klinischen Alltag werden diese jedoch bei weitem nicht immer diagnostiziert. Während ein Teil der beschriebenen Persönlichkeitsstörungen allenfalls eine Rolle als komplizierende Nebendiagnose spielt, müssen zur Behandlung anderer Formen, insbesondere der Borderline-Persönlichkeitsstörung, vielfältige medizinische und finanzielle Ressourcen aufgewendet werden.
Medikamentöse Behandlungsstrategien spielen nur bei einem Teil der Störungsbilder eine Rolle, im Vordergrund therapeutischer Bemühungen sollten psychotherapeutische Behandlungen stehen. Polypharmazie ist wiederum erneut bei der Borderline-Persönlichkeitsstörung besonders oft anzutreffen, sollte jedoch vermieden werden.
