Zusammenfassung

Die evolutionären Ursprünge des Tanzens sind unklar. Eine bereits prähistorische Verbindung zwischen Gesang, Tanz und Musizieren auf Perkussionsinstrumenten wird weithin angenommen. Bildliche Überlieferungen weisen nach, dass Tanz in sakralen und säkularen Formen seit Jahrtausenden in den frühen Hochkulturen praktiziert wurde und in zahlreichen Ethnien bis heute praktiziert wird. Bedeutungen solcher Tänze sind kaum vollständig zu erschließen, doch besteht ein weitgehender Konsens darin, sie insbesondere mit Heilritualen in Verbindung zu bringen.
