General Aviation Center / VIP Terminal

Zusammenfassung

Für die Errichtung des „General Aviation Center/VIP Terminal“ waren mehrere Gründe ausschlaggebend. Zum einen mussten die bisherigen Sondergasträume im Osten des Terminals 2 abgebrochen werden, um für die Terminalerweiterung Check-in 3 Platz zu machen. Zum anderen war das frühere „General Aviation Center“ nicht mehr zeitgemäß. Die EU-Ratspräsidentschaft Österreichs im 1. Halbjahr 2006 wurde zum Anlass genommen, um beide Funktionen in einem neuen Gebäude zusammenzuführen. Nach knapp einjähriger Bauzeit ging am 1.1.2006 der Standort im westlichen Teil des Flughafenareals in Betrieb.

Abstract

There were a number of reasons for the construction of the General Aviation Center/VIP Terminal. On the one hand, the former special guest rooms in the east end of Terminal 2 had to be demolished to make space for the terminal extension Check-in 3. On the other hand, the previous General Aviation Center was outdated. The Austrian EU Council Presidency in the first half of 2006 presented the opportunity to combine both functions in a new building. After a construction period of less than a year, it opened its doors on January 1, 2006 at the location in the western part of the airport terrain.
