Abstract

Various dendrimers can play enormous role in cancer research, diagnosis and treatment. Glycopeptide or peptide dendrimers containing different types of tumor-associated carbohydrate or peptide antigens have been intensively studied for their use as diagnostic or therapeutic tools. Dendrimers possess a great potential that can be utilized in antitumor immunotherapy, either as vaccines or as adjuvants. Further, dendrimeric structures can display direct toxicity against tumor cells, as well as they can serve as carriers for active toxic compounds or vectors for anti/tumor gene therapy thus increasing the therapeutic efficacy and specificity, and simultaneously minimizing adverse effects which limit current therapeutic modalities.
