Abstract

All cephalopod species have the ability to change color and form for camouflaging purposes and as a warning signal. One of the most interesting and hardest to find color change artists is the blue-ringed octopus, which produces iridescent blue rings on its skin as a forewarning of how extremely venomous it is. However, the striking effect of the cephalopods’ color and formal finesse can more often be observed in their courtship and mating behavior. And by the way: Almost all cephalopods have three hearts.
