Abstract
Most contributions in the present book analyse the link between a European identity and the European Space Policy (ESP) from a European domestic point of view. The underlying rationales of these reflections are mostly rooted in internal factors: how does a specifically European identity influence a specifically European space policy and vice versa? This contribution intends to add an international perspective to these thoughts. As such, it will tackle the external dimension of the European identity in space, focusing on the behaviour of Europe on the international scene and on the perception of the ESP by other spacefaring nations.

It has to be noted though, that the Lisbon Treaty formerly abolished the three-pillars structure to create a single European Union. However, the factual difference between communautarised policy areas and issues dealt at the intergovernmental level is not likely to disappear in the near future.
