Abstract

Europe is not the largest continent — in fact at 6,8% of Earth?s land area it is the second smallest. Nor is it the most densely populated; the 50 states residing on this landmass are home to around 11% of Earth?s population, making it the thirdmost densely populated continent. No geopolitical entity groups all 50 countries, no common geophysical characteristics exist- diversity is a prominent feature of Europe.
