Zusammenfassung

Die Physikalische und Rehabilitationsmedizin (Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, PRM) ist europaweit ein eigenständiges ärztliches Fachgebiet1. Die Facharztbezeichnungen können in einzelnen Ländern allerdings abweichen (Österreich: Physikalische Medizin und allgemeine Rehabilitation; Deutschland: Physikalische und Rehabilitative Medizin; England: Rehabilitationsmedizin), (Gutenbrunner et al. 2006, 2007). Die Gebietsdefinition wird heute überwiegend aus dem Konstrukt der Funktionsfähigkeit abgeleitet, das auf dem Modell der Internationalen Klassifikation der Funktionsfähigkeit, Behinderung und Gesundheit (ICF) der Weltgesundheitsorganisation beruht (WHO 2001).
