Zusammenfassung
In Japan wurden bis Anfang der 50er Jahre bakterielle Dysenterien erfolgreich mit Sulfonamiden behandelt. Dann tauchten die ersten resistenten Shigella-Stämme auf, und als Alternative kamen die Antibiotika Tetracyclin, Streptomycin und Chloramphenicol zum Einsatz. 1957 waren bereits 2% der Shigellen gegen eines oder mehrere dieser Antibiotika resistent, drei Jahre später waren es 13%, wobei 9% der Isolate Resistenz gegen alle vier Antibiotika zeigten.
