Welchen Stellenwert die Massenmedien innerhalb eines politischen Systems einnehmen, braucht unter Hinweis auf Gabriel Almond kaum noch zusätzlich hervorgehoben werden: „All of the functions performed in the political system — political socialization and recruitment, interest articulation, interest aggregation, rulemaking, rule application, and rule adjudication — are performed by means of communication“ (156).
