Die Polarisation des Lichtes wurde entdeckt von Huyghens2) als eine besondere Eigenschaft, welche dasselbe beim Durchgang durch Kalkspath erlangt; Malus3) lehrte das Licht auch durch Reflexion und Brechung paralisiren, Fresnel4) endlich machte die Entdeckungen, welche das Wesen der Polarisationserscheinungen aufhellten.
