Abstract

The Navier-Stokes equations in their vorticity streamfunction formulation are discretized by compact algorithms. Comparison of two numerical schemes are performed on the backward facing step. While Poisson equation is in every case “mehrstellen” solved by an optimized ADI method, the vorticity equation is time differenced either with the help of a Beam-Warming approximate factorization resting upon a one-step quasi one leg method which is Δt2-accurate and A-stable, or with a more common ADI PeacemanRachford method.
