Ethnobotanische Beobachtungen bei den Sakai auf Sumatra

Zusammenfassung

Eine Darstellung der rein botanischen Kenntnisse der Sakai ähnelt, wenn sie nicht wenigstens in eine angedeutete Gesamtsicht ihrer Vorstellungen eingebettet ist, nur einem Zerrbild ihrer Betrachtungsweise pflanzlichen Lebens. Deshalb möchte ich zunächst in Umrissen die Anlage eines Brandrodungsfeldes im Urwald und die anschließende Feldarbeit darstellen, um auf diese Weise einen ersten Einblick in die Glaubensvorstellungen der Sakai in Bezug auf pflanzliche Wesen zu geben. Anschließend wird dies ausführlich exemplarisch in Bemerkungen über eine bestimmte Baumart (kayu bosi) vertieft. Sodann werden botanische Detailkenntnisse einschließlich ihrer Nutzbarmachung durch den Menschen dargestellt und durch geeignete Sprichwörter und Redensarten und Vorstellungen über die Entstehung verschiedener Gewächse ergänzt. Sodann wird das “botanische System” der Sakai dargestellt und schließlich die Hypothese eines universalen Denkansatzes postuliert.

Summary

A representation of the pure botanical knowledge of the Sakai is, unless it is embedded in an at least implied overall view of their imagination, only like a distorted picture of their approach to plant life. Therefore, for the present I would like to represent the laying-out of a fire-clearing-field in the jungle and the following field work to give by this means a first glimps of the belief of the Sakai referring to plant nature. Subsequently to that, this will be deepened by detailed examples of remarks about botanical detail-knowledge of a certain type of tree. After that, botanical detail-knowledge including its utilization by man will be represented and completed by appropriate sayingscand idioms and imagination of the origin of different plants. Then the “botanical system” of the Sakai will be represented and finally a hypothesis of an universal way of thinking will be postulated.

Une présentation des connaissances purement botaniques des Sakai serait une caricature de leur approche de la vie végétale si elle ne tenait pas compte du contexte de leurs conceptions. C’est pourquoi je voudrais d’abord parler rapidement de l’aménagement d’un champ défriché en forêt vierge et présenter les travaux qui suivent. De cette façon, je donne un premier aperçu des croyances des Sakai relatives aux êtres végétaux. Ensuite sont donnés des exemples précis et détaillés sur une certaine variété d’arbre. Puis sont détaillées les connaissances botaniques et l’usage qu’en font les hommes. Elles sont complétées par des proverbes, des expressions relatives à la naissance des plantes. Enfin, on présente le système botanique des Sakai et l’hypothèse d’une façon universelle de penser.
