Abstract

In consequence of the Friuli earthquakes since 1976 geophysical investigations in the area of N-Italy/S-Austria (Carinthia) have been carried out. It was intended to analyse the relation between the local stress field of the earth’s crust and several physical parameters. There is an evidence of a correlation between seismicity and rockbursts in the mine of the BBU. The radon content of the observed spring depends on the precipitation and the groundwater level. If the investigations are restricted to a period where these influences are neglectible the time series of the radon content exhibits certain similarities with the earthquake activity.
