Part of the book series: Notes on Numerical Fluid Mechanics (NNFM) ((NNFM,volume 29))

Summary

The recent development in Computational Fluid Dynamics leads to larger and larger numbers of unknowns. Thus the use of fast solvers becomes more and more important. In the present paper, we focus on multi-grid methods and Navier-Stokes equations. Recent results demonstrate the effectivity of such solvers over standard approaches applied to the compressible as well as to the incompressible, the stationary as well as to the non-stationary case. All the approaches mentioned above use special ingredients to obtain full multi-grid efficiency.

After an overview of multi-grid in CFD, we incorporate the smoothers proposed by Vanka, [11], into the r-transforming framework from [14] and report on some numerical comparisons of these ones.
