Resumen

Una revisión de la bibliografia muestra que las investigaciones sobre las propiedades quimicas de las plantas alucinógenas de América del Sur, la clasificación botanica de éstas, y el papal de las mismas en las culturas indigenas se ha multiplicado en las ùltimas décadas (entre otros, O’CONNELL et al 1953; MALLOL DE RECASENS 1963, 1964–1965; AGURELL et al. 1968; BAER 1969; RIVIER & LINDGREN 1972; los trabajos editados por HARNER 1973; REICHEL-DOLMATOFF 1975; FURST 1976; LANGDON 1979; LOCKWOOD 1979; PLOWMAN 1979, 1981; CALIFANO & DISTEL 1982; NARANJO 1983). La mayoria de estos trabajos se refieren a especies y etnias del Noroeste amazónico, en las cuales la ingestion de alucinógenos es habitual.
