Abstract
The concept of semimodularity as applied to lattices of finite length ramifies rather unpleasantly when extended to arbitrary lattiĀces (s. BIRRHOFF [1967], Remark p. 85). For instance, CROISOT [1951 a] discusses the interrelationship of 23 such ramifications and gives many examples for each of them.
