Abstract
In order to illustrate the differences between the religious language of prayers in Livy’s history and. those in the Aeneid, I will examine several passages chosen to exemplify similar types of prayers that occur in both works: oaths at the solemnization of a treaty, vows before an intended action, and petitionary prayers in response to an omen.
