Abstract
The online publishing industry is growing rapidly. Only a few years after the terms ‘Internet’ and ‘World Wide Web’ first made headlines, thousands of news outlets, provided by publishers and broadcasters based all over the world, are now present on the Web (see McDonnell, 1997; Peterson, 1997). Many traditional media organizations (such as CNN, the Wall Street Journal, The Economist, and the New York Times) have set up Web editions of their publications, and several news agencies (like Reuters) and other organizations have also participated in the development of news sites.
