Zusammenfassung
Was immer wir kommunikativ tun, wir verwenden dabei in der Regel bestimmte Formen, die wir nicht selbst erfunden haben, sondern die uns als Teil unseres Wissensvorrats zur Verfügung stehen. Sind diese Formen fest vorgeprägt und weisen einen bestimmten Komplexitätsgrad auf, so reden wir von Gattungen. Der soziologische Gattungsbegriff1 baut vor allem auf den in den 20er und 30er Jahren entstandenen Arbeiten Bachtins (1979/86) und Vološinovs (1929/75) auf. Sprache ist für Vološinov und Bachtin eng mit der sozialen Wirklichkeit verknüpft, da sie in sozialen Situationen Verwendung findet. Sprache hat ihren eigentlichen Sitz in der kommunikativen Interaktion und wird in Form konkreter Äußerungen in verschiedenartigen Aktivitäten realisiert (Bachtin 1979/86). Zur Realisierung bedient sich das Sprechen interaktionssteuernder Redegattungen, deren Wahl von sozialen Strukturen geprägt ist. Fü r Bachtin (1986: 78f.) besteht Sprechen somit hauptsächlich in der Wahl einer Redegattung. Aus dieser Perspektive erscheinen Gattungen nicht etwa als komplexe, von der Interaktion losgelöste Sprachstrukturen, sondern als im Sprechen erzeugte interaktive Handlungsmuster. Gattungen, die Bachtin sowohl in enger Beziehung zu Ideologien sozialer Gruppen sieht als auch in Zusammenhang mit Aktivitäten im historischen Kontext, repräsentieren für ihn die Bindeglieder zwischen Gesellschaft und Sprache.
