Zusammenfassung

Vor dreißig Jahren beinhalteten Prozesse gegen Pornographie nichts anderes als die neuesten Versuche von Staatsanwälten, Bücher wie ‚Fanny Hill‘ oder Schriftsteller wie D.H. Lawrence und J.D. Salinger zu verbieten. Einschlägige Filme (Nuditätenkinos) beschränkten sich von selbst auf das Zeigen von Pos und Busen, und „Unter-dem-Ladentisch“-Heimfilme, die unscharfe Ablichtungen von unterschiedlichen Positionen des Geschlechtsverkehrs zeigten, machten keinerlei Vorspiegelungen, an irgendwas anderes zu appellieren als an lüsternes Interesse. Zeitgenössische Liberale — besonders Männer —, die in dieser eher unschuldigen Ära aufwuchsen, sind meist sehr reserviert gegenüber dem Bedürfnis nach staatlicher Kontrolle von Obszönität und Pornographie, und so verzeichnete 1970 auch die US-Kommission für Obszönität und Pornographie (USCOP), daß „eine Mehrheit amerikanischer Erwachsener glaubt, daß es Erwachsenen erlaubt sein sollte, jegliches sexuelle Material zu lesen oder zu sehen, das sie nur wünschen“.
