Zusammenfassung

Theoriebildung in den Sozialwissenschaften ist immer mit Abstraktion verbunden, sie reduziert die unüberschaubare Komplexität der empirischen Realität auf grundlegende Kategorien und Zusammenhänge. Sozialwissenschaftliche Theorien gelten deshalb oft als praxisfern. Dieser Vorwurf mag für einzelne Theorien berechtigt sein. Er ist jedoch zweifellos falsch, wenn er sich auf die Leistungen von Theoriebildung an sich bezieht. Eine gute erfahrungswissenschaftlich gestützte Theorie kann nicht nur praktische Probleme erkennbar und erklärbar machen, sondern auch Grundlagen für ihre Lösung schaffen.
