Die „freeze“-Opposition

Zusammenfassung

Ohne an dieser Stelle die Gruppierungen im einzelnen vorzustellen und in ihren Aussagen zu analysieren, sollen in diesem Kapitel zusammenfassend die Motive und Strategiekonzepte der konservativen bis extremen rechten Opposition in den USA dargelegt werden. Die Gruppierungen der sogenannten Neuen Rechten in den USA — “Moral Majority”, “Conservative Victory Fund”, “Conservative Digest”, “National Right to Work Committee”, “American Life Lobby”, “Conservatives Against Liberal Legislation”, “Committee for the Survival of a Free Congress” u.a. — 1 tendierten in der nationalen Sicherheitsfrage zu einer isolationistischen Politik, die auf einer unantastbaren militärischen Stärke beruhte. Ähnlich wie auf der anderen Seite die Linke, lehnten auch sie das herkömmliche Abschreckungskonzept, welches die Verwundbarkeit des eigenen Landes gegenüber einem Nuklearangriff der Sowjetunion voraussetzte und tatsächlich implizierte, aus — natürlich — unterschiedlichen Motiven heraus ab und empfanden eine ungefähre nukleare Parität als keinesfalls erstrebenswert oder befriedigend.
