Zusammenfassung

In den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten hat eine bemerkenswerte Renaissance des Bürgers in Westeuropa und Nordamerika stattgefunden. Im Zuge der Diskussion um die Zivilgesellschaft wurde auch der Bürger wiederentdeckt, eine Entdeckung, die zurück zu den Anfängen der politischen Philosophie führt. Denn recht eigentlich bedeutete Politik im aristotelischen Sinne nichts anderes als die Angelegenheiten des Bürgers. Wenn nun, am Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts, der Bürger wieder ins Zentrum politischer, philosophischer und sozialwissenschaftlicher Diskurse rückt, so bedeutet diese Neuorientierung im Grunde eine Rückkehr zu den Anfängen des politischen Denkens.
