Zusammenfassung
Erzherzog Johann war der große und innovative Habsburger, der Steirische Prinz, General, Unternehmer, Kurator der Akademie der Wissenschaften und vieles mehr.1 „Er hat nicht lange gefackelt, sondern angefangen, als Innovator, Visionär und Vordenker das Land in seinen ihm innewohnenden Kräften aufzuwecken, es zu neuem Leben zu bringen, hat es aufgerufen und bewegt, seinen Notstand zu beseitigen.“2 Dies wird über einen Mann gesagt, der vor etwa 200 Jahren große Innovationen in einer am Boden liegenden Region vorantrieb. Er umgab sich mit den hellsten Köpfen des Landes, die er überall hin mitnahm, und zwar nicht nur zur Dokumentation, sondern auch zur Weiterbildung seines „geliebten Bergvolkes“. Es war nicht sein Ansinnen im Mittelpunkt zu stehen, sondern aus denen, die ihn umgaben, Kraft zu ziehen, die er brauchte, um gepaart mit seinem Durchsetzungsvermögen, die wichtigen Taten für seine Steirerinnen und Steirer zu setzen.3
