Abstract

The first task in building a structural model of a system is to identify the important system elements and their interconnections. The product of this effort is the influence diagram, an initial qualitative model. Later, the simulation of the system will require a more exact specification and quantification of the components in the influence diagram. However, even this first qualitative picture of the system provides some useful insights.
