Zusammenfassung

Ein Gutteil des theoretischen Interesses der Wissenschafts- und Technikforschung der vergangenen zwei Jahrzehnte war auf eine Revision klassischer Vorstellungen zum Verhältnis von Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft gerichtet. Latours Konzept einer Technowissenschaft (1987) etwa oder sozialkonstruktivistische Ansätze (z.B. Bijker 1995; Bijker et al. 1987) spielten die Grenzen zwischen Wissenschaft und Technik/Technologie und zwischen diesen Feldern und anderen gesellschaftlichen Feldern oder Systemen herunter. Das Modell einer „new production of knowledge“ — „mode 2“ — folgt in mancher Hinsicht einer ähnlichen Linie (Gibbons et al., 1994; Nowotny, 2001). Gemeinsam ist diesen Perspektiven die Vorannahme, dass technisches und kognitives Handeln, ebenso wie alles gesellschaftliche Handeln, von einem turbulenten, weithin undifferenzierten Mix unterschiedlichster Akteure und Interessen getragen wird. Argumentationen dieser Art unterstellen auf die eine oder andere Weise, kollektives Handeln sei inhärent heterogen. Gewissermaßen auf einer einzigen kognitiv-technisch-sozialen Ebene werden Handlungen und Handelnde als kreuz und quer verknüpft oder, wie Latour sagt, assoziiert gedacht.
